Never a dull moment
At Pennine Lodge, we focus on supporting our ladies and gentlemen to keep active, both physically and mentally. This means that there is never a dull day at Pennine Lodge!
Let’s get physical!
Pennine Lodge is located opposite the beautiful Centre Vale Park where many of our ladies and gentlemen like to take country walks and be close to nature. The park is famous for hosting popular regional outdoor events, such as the National Crown Green Bowling Club Championships and the Todmorden Country Fair. It is a wonderful facility to have right on our doorstep.
Our ladies and gentlemen love to get out and about and enjoy trips into the local community. We regularly go to Daisy’s local dementia-friendly café, the Todmorden Hippodrome men’s club, the Rotary Friendship Club dance, the Roomfield Baptist Church coffee morning and Intergenerational groups at Todmorden High School and C of E primary school. We also benefit from personalised and group day trips to the cinema, museum, football matches, concerts, go out for meals, and visit the local church for Sunday services.
We are lucky to have access to great shopping in Burnley, Halifax and Huddersfield and are well positioned for trips to Hebden Bridge and a wealth of picturesque towns and villages in West Yorkshire.
Our exercise group plan exercise in line with individual need. They play adapted versions of football as well as exercises for upper body strength such as ‘catch’. Our sister home Asquith Hall also offers therapies including Reiki and Reflexology, and has an onsite Hydrotherapy Pool which our ladies and gentlemen are able to use.
There is a full programme of home-based, tailored activities to suit everyone’s individual needs:
- Themed days – for example: Valentine’s Day quiz, An Elf Christmas and Easter egg hunt.
- Craft group – working 1-1 on Christmas cards, colouring, puzzles, making models and reading newspapers.
We have a varied programme of entertainers who visit the home. The programme includes live shows and singers and is something our ladies and gentlemen really enjoy.
We like to use innovative ideas and products to help us to support our ladies and gentlemen.
Our Jolly Trolley is a fully interactive and tactile entertainment trolley with touch screen technology. It is used as a tool to communicate though music and pictures and creates a pathway of communication for those living with dementia. The pre-programmed reminiscence films are designed to help people to express themselves, carry out calming and meaningful activities, and stir happy memories. The trolley is a useful tool which can also help in de-escalating difficult situations.
The Jolly Trolley is fully portable. It’s portability supports our philosophy of person-centred care as we can carry out activities anywhere in the home or grounds and even take it into the rooms of those who appear closed off and hard to reach, or those who are unable to physically participate in group activities.
At Pennine Lodge we use the Jolly Trolley to help celebrate people’s birthdays – showing photos and video clips of them on the interactive screen. We have also used it for memorial services to celebrate people who have passed away. Our ladies and gentlemen are not always able to attend funerals and this gives them and our staff members a chance to say farewell.
The trolley comes pre-programmed with the following:
- Church service
- 1940’s reminiscence
- 1950’s reminiscence
- 1960’s reminiscence
- 1970’s reminiscence
- Beach theme
- Blackpool theme
- Afternoon tea theme
- Happy Birthday
- Relaxation – Fish tank, Park Life and Little Islands relaxation films
- Piano bar sing-a-long
- 6 Quizzes
- Christmas theme
